It is important for us to think about our surroundings and the responsibility we have when we produce glerups slippers. Everything we do is done with respect and care for people, animals and nature. Our slippers are Cradle to Cradle Certified®, our leather soles are chrome-free and our natural rubber soles are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
C2C CERTIFIED® FULL SCOPE BRONZE, VERSION 4.1
We are proud to announce that we have achieved the Cradle to Cradle Certification® Bronze for our slippers based on version 4.1. We follow a sustainable design philosophy, which means that products and materials are part of a closed-loop cycle where nothing becomes waste. Specifically, we create
slip-ons, shoes and boots that are environmentally friendly for people, animal and nature within a circular system. It results in a healthier product – and a cleaner future.
FSC® CERTIFIED NATURAL RUBBER SOLES
The natural rubber comes from the idea of producing soles the same way that the indigenous people of South America did. They used the sap from the Heavea tree. The sap is collected by cutting thin strips of bark from the tree and allowed the latex substance to be tapped. This harvesting does not weaken the tree, it actually helps it flourish. The sap is constantly being reproduced by the trees and they are allowed a sufficient break for regenerating. Forest Stewardship Council sets the gold standard for responsible forest management. glerups works with partners who are committed to sustainable sourcing.
"…It takes time to make a pair of glerups. We don’t rush the process, but rather, we take our time. My parents spent many years testing and developing our product. They put a lot of hard work and many hours into glerups. All the way from the sheep to your feet. We take extreme pride in the fact that we own our own factory, partner with honest and caring farmers, and have eyes on every step of our value chain… My parents started glerups this way and their legacy will never be forgotten."
